Many artists painting in acrylic tend to be intimidated by oils because they seem harder to work with. However, I myself started in acrylic. I didn’t even know oils existed, let alone what you were able to accomplish with them.
I was in college when I discovered oil painting and to my delight, fell in love. My very first self-portrait painting is below. I was told the proper mediums to use and without that help, I wouldn’t have known where to start. So, I want to share that same knowledge with you!
My self-portrait “My Inner Mona Lisa”, Oil on self-made Canvas
Within these blog posts, I’ll share my latest watercolour and oil paintings, along with a few of my favorite mediums to use with painting and techniques I learn along the way.
in my first post, I wanted to share with you all of the oil painting materials you’ll need to get started. Now, keep in mind, these are the materials I use and that I’m comfortable with. I’ve been painting for a little over 7 years now, and I’m still learning.
An artist never stops learning, really.
I hope you never think you can’t do something just because you feel you can’t be “as good”, or because you simply feel inadequate. I myself suffered under that same hand, but I just want to encourage you to keep at it, work hard, and never give up.
So, I hope you enjoy these blog posts about my painting journey and I hope they inspire you!
